Shelter and Support: The Importance of our Shelter House

The Casa de Acogida is clearly a very important help for patients and families coming from the regions. Having a place to come to that is clean, safe and welcoming is invaluable. The moms and dads who have stayed at the house always tell me that this place is very helpful for them. Another key aspect is that through living together they can share experiences, knowledge and mutual support. That is very important: to realize that you are not alone. Everyone accompanies each other.

On the other hand, it would be good to have more hours of support with the psychologist and nutritionist. The responsible adults are very grateful for the assistance that MATER provides them, but due to schedules many of them cannot be there the day the professionals come. Finally, the shelter is more than accommodation: it is a refuge and support.
