A total of 19 pediatric patients were benefited in an intense surgical operation that took place at the Claudio Vicuña Hospital on May 9 and 10, in conjunction with the Children's Renal Corporation MATER.
The initiative is part of the non-profit organization's Growing Without Waiting program, which seeks to reduce waiting times for non-GES surgeries for children in different regions of the country, in collaboration with the Chilean Societies of Pediatric Surgery and Anesthesiology.
This is the second time that Hospital Claudio Vicuña has made this successful alliance with Corporación MATER, after the positive results obtained in January with a first operation of the same characteristics.
Antonia Heusser, nurse coordinator of the program, made a positive assessment of the new day, highlighting the collaborative work carried out between the two institutions.
"We are very happy to be back in San Antonio. The hospital's reception has been very good and the collaborative work that has taken place between the teams has been very expeditious. We are very happy to be here and we hope to continue developing these operations together with the Claudio Vicuña Hospital," he said.
On this occasion, eight volunteer physicians, including pediatric surgeons and anesthesiologists, worked together with specialists and clinical teams from the HCV's Surgical and Sterilization Wards.
One of the highlights of the day was the electric car to transport patients and the light projector implemented by the service staff, simulating a starry galaxy both in the ward and in the recovery room.
The above, with the aim of fostering a more welcoming and playful environment for the little ones and their parents, thus reducing the anxiety and stress that surgery can generate.
Belén Silva, mother of one of the beneficiary patients, appreciated the measures implemented:
"This operation is a great help for those of us who do not have the resources. From the moment you enter, the treatment is very good and everything is designed so that the children are not frightened. There is a little car, lights, music and even the staff wears superhero capes. I thank the hospital for my son's surgery", she closed.
